EdvanceSkill has been born out of the observation that many actuarial professionals have been facing. What better than an experienced actuarial team designing the course based on their journey!
When our founder, Dishang started looking for his first job, he had already cleared 6 actuarial exams but there was no understanding of how this would be used in real-world. Also there was no guidance available to cope up with such issues.
He missed many amazing opportunities (even his dream role). He mentions that the impact of missing such opportunities bites you till much late in your career because starting years are foundation years when you are not tagged per se.
He understands the reason for early failures was that he was not better prepared than his 250+ competitor for the same job. With some hustle, he started his first job. However, his failure story repeated itself again in 2012 (more fiercely this time), when he decided to navigate his career from Pensions to Life Insurance Industry.
In 2020, when he communicated with the aspiring actuaries, he observed them facing the same problem. And so he decided to build upskilling and guidance opportunities for the actuarial professionals.
What is the current scenario for aspiring actuaries?
- Actuarial career is still very rewarding but the competition has only become more fierce & finding the first job has become even more difficult.
- Actuarial skills are now challenged by other professionals like Data Scientist, CFA etc. However, actuaries have also paved their ways into non-traditional fields like banking but the penetration is still in early stages.
- Employers have become even more demanding. Students are expected to not only clear actuarial exams but also well-versed with software tools like R, Python, Excel, etc.
- While every other profession is building their own Edtech version, there was no guidance or upskilling opportunities for actuaries.
